Well its true, 97% of the time we’re about completely selfish stuff – building big biceps and bodacious booties, living lean and looking good naked, having fun while naked, etc.
But in case you’ve only ever visited Our Beach as an occasional tourist, you should know that we’re not just complete beach bums. Our crew cares for each other too. You can’t party with peace of mind if you know one of your own is suffering.
Maybe that style comes from the real beach towns we come from – Kalai from Hawaii and me from Half Moon Bay. Or maybe it comes from some of our earliest years hanging out together at Da Hukilau. We were lucky to grow up in places where people look after each other, actually give a damn about how you are doing, and where that tribal sense of community is still alive.
So in addition to our glorious fitness mission, we’re also about trying to do some cool, difference-making shit from time-to-time. That’s why just like Bodhi’s crew in Point Break, we rob the occasional bank to fund our Endless Summer lifestyles. We want to show the suits there is still something to live for! Hahaha, just kidding frickin’ Johnny Utah. Just kidding.
But here is something real that I did want to tell you about today.
Awhile back, I wrote a book called The Way of the Cancer Warrior: 34 Strategies for Your Cancer War. I never really felt right about selling the book, given the content and the intent. And since I felt like a scumbag, I mostly kept quiet about it, despite the fact that I thought the book might be able to help a few people out.
“No Fear” is big where we’re from too. But it turns out guilt can be even more paralyzing. Hell, I’d much rather wipe out than not be able to look at myself in the mirror at the end of the day.
So what we’ve done to bust through that barrier is uploaded the book to our website as a PDF file, and made it available for free. If you think you or anyone else you know might benefit, you can click on the cover and read the entire book for free right now. No strings attached.
If you’d like to know what the book is all about, why it was written, and how we think it might help either patients or caretakers, we created (and just updated on 11/1/2014) a homepage with the history and description.
Here is the link where both the book and the home page are housed.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled 6-pack programming. Aloha, Adiós, sayonara, see you later…
